this is a pet peeve of mine, and while it's not that folks are being stupid with their 4legged animals, it's the 2leggeds that worry me.
Why do people bring kids to a dog park? Especially kids under, say, ten years old? I know as an adult going into a place full of dogs I don't know that it IS possible I could be bitten or even accidentally injured by an overly enthusiastic dog. I'm only 5'0, and not a big person at all, and there are kids out there bigger than me, but I (hopefully) have the sense to be aware of my surroundings, etc. I have 4 dogs, one does not go to dog park as she's aggressive with dogs other than the ones she lives with. But just because I have that sense doesn't mean other folks do, and I have stories to prove it. So if two dogs get into it, and the kid is nearby or runs up to help...there's so many reasons a kid shouldn't be there, I can't list them all.
Am I just being old and crotchety, and not seeing a valid reason for endangering one's kids like this, or am I on-target? Thanks :) |

Has anyone bought/used these DPNs from eBay?
I'd like to buy a set so I have everything available. Plus its much cheaper than the needles from Joann/Michaels.
Which length do you think is best? 5-7-8?

From Ravelry Pattern: Parrotfish / Pomatomus hat by Kristy Pedersen Yarn: Koigu Mori After making the Pomatomus socks, I really wanted the hat too! ( Primeval Pomatomus Hat )
This took a bit of patience to knit, but it's finally done! At first it fit perfectly, but then I gave it a rinse and it grew! I'm a bit sad about that. At least I got one last project finished before the end of the year.
I watched all three seasons of Primeval while doing this hat...hence the name. It is now funny to hear people speak w/o a British accent. I don't fault Madonna any more for her faux accent...I suddenly want to start saying stuff with an accent...Current mood: content

I ended up giving a lot of knitted gifts for Christmas this year, and now that they're all safely in the hands of the recipients, and there's no chance of ruining a surprise, I thought I would share!
( Hats, gloves, scarves, and more! )
I'm currently working on the Hemlock Ring Blanket, and so far it's going really well (knock on wood!) and I'm loving it.
Thanks for reading! I'm "eccisne" on Ravelry, if anyone is interested.Current mood: accomplished Current music: "The Mayor and the Crook"~Aesop Rock

Yesterday we were at a friend's house for dinner. Said friend, H, is a cat man, in the sense that somehow all the strays in the neighborhood find their way into his house at some point, and he feeds them. He has a cat flap, so cats can just come and go as they please. So at any time of the year he'll have between 2 and 10 cats hanging around, eating food and then disappearing for a week or a month or a year and sometimes forever. I don't like that "his" cats aren't cared for beyond having a plate of food 24/7, but on the other hand, they aren't his cats, exactly--they just kind of wander in and make themselves at home. ( poor sick kitty )
Bonus stupid: they also just got a puppy about a year ago. Said puppy is very cute, very sweet--and very very untrained. My boyfriend's dad's dogs, for instance, all knew to sit when they were told, and the command for "lie down" meant "go to your bed and lie down". This dog...well, it's good with cats, and that's about all I can say for it. H's idea of disciplining the dog seems to be grabbing it by the scruff until it yelps, and forcing it to sit. |

My new nephew made an early appearance a week before Christmas, so I had to hurry up and finish his stuffed elephant!

My husband is a truck driver in the northeast. Since he's in and out of the truck at night in all kinds of bad weather, he asked if I could make him some wool socks. So I popped on over to ebay, found some wool and finally finished these last night.
They came out pretty well, I thought, and even fit him. Go me! :D

These photos are the best of the lot. I seriously despise having my photo taken so these are the ones I will allow to go out to you all.
Sweater is complete except I need to sew in the zipper, but that will wait until tomorrow night. (When I can get to the store and buy one.)
Husband - who is ill with some kind of plague took the photos. All the photos of the front are blurry and super icky. He is hopped up on NyQuil and a bit loopy.

Ugh, I really should not be checking Craigslist after the holidays.
So many "My husband/wife got me this puppy/kitten as a surprise for Christmas, but oh noes it doesn't fit in with our family." Sadly, I think one of them is my old friend's ad...she's pregnant with her second child and has a toddler and the last thing she wanted was a puppy (they already have 2 dogs and 3 kitties)...but what does her husband do? Gets her a puppy he found at a pet store (gah) because he thought she'd think it was cute. ....
I don't understand how one can get a puppy (or any animal, for that matter) on a whim. I love dogs, but I know I work wayy too much to have one. Maybe someday. And to not discuss it with your spouse? "Oh hey, honey, I know you're raising our toddler, are pregnant, and take care of 5 animals, but can I throw a puppy into the mix?" So now this poor puppy needs a new home.
And there are so many ads like that. I went to a pet store today for some cat litter and they had an ad up. It was a woman getting a golden retriever pup with a bow on its head that read: "Surprise her this holiday season!" *headdesk* |

A while back someone showed me a hat she had made for her daughter with a diamond pattern, and it looked just like this (ravelry link) but it was knitted.
I am wondering if anyone knows this pattern? I just can't seem to find it on ravelry, where I was told it had been found. I got the yarn and everything and thought I had the pattern but... well, I somehow managed to miss that the above is a crochet pattern. I know how to crochet so it's not that, but I really wanted to knit it.
Any and all help appreciated!
